Singing Through His Struggles, Rapping Through His Problems
This is my first collaboration on the blog. Introducing a friend turned performer and giving his few seconds of fame.
Struggle gets a man pull up his socks.
Left with very little money to spend, Abhinandan Gaikwad who has now created
his own identity of AVG Own Style, found his path through lyrics. He wasn’t
good at writing essays in school but today his song compositions get people to
groove. Started just about a year back into full-fledged performing, I got him
talking about how he created his own style. Read on...
How did you get into rapping? A little about
your background...
I never really decided into this
profession. I would say I started my career as a performer. From my school days
I had some creative element in writing and singing, be it poems or just songs.
I was also in the school’s band as a head. Along with it came dance and
entertainment. So somehow I knew I would get into this field.
Naturally with main steps in all this,
I was two steps behind when it came to studies. My talent lay in entertaining
others in the classroom more than books. I used to fail in 3 subjects sometimes
thus passing in 10th was a major struggle. I opted for commerce and
again was more active in college events. I got myself medals in dance, singing,
fashion shows and other activities which only gave a boost to my confidence. I
did my graduation as well.
Like an expected pass out, I got a job
but couldn’t stick around to it for more than 15 days. Struggles had begun as there
was no money in my pockets. I could not ask at home for money so I had to do something, I began with anchoring some
events. During this time I wrote my first rap song Marathi Katta Rap, since then there is no
looking back. I have written more than 100 raps today, working towards my dream
of a performer.
I am not just a rapper, but a playback
singer now.
Who is your inspiration?
My only inspiration were my
difficulties. I had to rise and then I took to write. In this period I found my
lyrics, thus began my compositions. I met a lot off demotivating people as well. Not many look at it so respectfully but I was confident, that itself became my inspiration.
Your best composition and why?
Without doubt it would be my first
song KATTA RAP. I remember I was sitting idle, i did not know what to do. I spoke to a friend of mine and he said why don't you write something. I was fond of poems from the start. I did not know what to even write on so I actually noted down what I was doing. (http://youtu.be/tBljh8suXaw)
How much time do you usually take to
compose a track?
It totally depends on the concept. While
it may take me 2 minutes or it may also take me 2 days. At times I have scraped
my compositions because I did not feel faithful towards them. At the end of the
day it is all about how creative you can be and to feel the concept at the same
time.
I work for quality over quantity. I
want it to be loved by people so it has to be well prepared.
Tell us something about your projects.
I have done Take It Easy a Bollywood movie in 2015 as a lead rapper performer. (http://youtu.be/i6uB0WkePe8)
Recently I did the film Carrom Queen title song and also
performed in the same with the likes of Prathamesh Parab, Arun Kadam, Sachin Bhangrai.
It has just released.
And I am currently working on the
Ekvira rap, it is my own song and the shoot is in process. I am looking to
collaborate with many other artists in days to come.
Besides I have also done a TV serial
track with an awesome hunk Mr. Universe. It is a little early to give in more
details as I think it is better for it to officially release. The shoot is
done, it is in the post-processing stage.
Rapping usually uses alcohol and drug and
girls reference in songs.. What is your idea about it?
See, honestly the youth of this
country knows everything that goes on, but all they need is guidelines. I opine
that you can provide entertainment but with also some social messages.
I don’t like to show the wrong things
just for fame. I too write lyrics which are based on these subjects but I
haven’t hurt anyone or given wrong cultural references. I try to provide subtle
entertainment. The youth knows, but they lack guidance or the understanding of
the effects.
He has his achievements and is
climbing steps further in an arena that he fits in. He exhibits the confidence
and it always ready to sing for you and he signs off with AVG Own Style Baby!! You’ll
