Dear Best-Friend, Don’t Fall In Love With Me.

I’ll start without a warning, just the way people fall in love, without any warnings. One cannot always pick and choose as to who you want to or want to be loved by. Even picking the right toppings for a Pizza gets so difficult; love is all together a different ball-game.

Please don’t fall in love with me my friend, I cannot lose you.

I am the easiest you can fall for since we share too many things. You know a lot about me, more than I may know myself. We are together, if not, we are on calls, messages, in touch through some means or another. We play, joke, laugh, share sad moments together. We make each other too comfortable. We have discussed from amoebas to travelling the globe together.

There are already people out there who have been wondering if something is going on between us, don’t pay heed, don’t get influenced. Let them wonder, stop explaining them.

As much as some keep saying ‘fall in love with your best-friend,’ they don’t mention the small *of conditions apply. The idea of being in love with you seems so pleasant, we already know each other so much, so what more could we ask for. You genuinely listen, advice, care, share and of course love.

I fell in love with my best-friend once, it was dream-like to transform into a beautiful relationship. The partners’ cuddle taking over friends’ banter. We got closer, emotionally and physically, it seemed perfect. But who wants things so perfect? Not me, not him. We have been together since years, what’s new to discover? We will change to suit each other better and miss the old ‘us.’ Notice how I mention it was....
Today I’ve lost that friend of mine, the memories bring a smile but also a tear. It couldn’t be permanent. This ‘love’ escapes quickly, more than you ever thought. And now what? You cannot be that same friend again. How much ever you convince or decide ‘we will keep the friendship intact, just as it was’ who are you kidding?

Then I fell for someone who I thought could be my best-friend and then again for someone who had replaced him, but none of it worked. I have lost them all, it sucks! There were expectations too soon, comparisons too mean, past too entangled, future not well-thought off. I lost my friendships in the name of love, what a bad trade!

But not again. You’re my best-friend I proudly show off and within I call Mine. Don’t make me fall in love with you and so don’t even you. It is one of the trickiest situations, I will think about you even when I don’t want to. I will want to meet you, even when I have nothing to talk about, I will want to go out with you more often. It will again seem perfect for a while. But then I have other best-friends too, you unknowingly won’t like them, I can’t stay away from them for you. You fear they will love me just as you did. It will lead to insecurities, complications, and twirl in the circles of 'this is not who I loved.' Imagine me forgetting you for 'him.' That's why don't become my Him.

You’re my best-friend and let’s keep it at that. You’ll get a place above my significant other, because to whom else can I complain about him? ‘Coz don’t you worry, I am not among those who will repel away when certain ‘bae’ walks in their lives.

In today’s world of fake smiles and lose compliments, friends are hard to find and easy to lose. I respect our friendship way too much and I care about this. I love you but let us not get to being in love with you/me. It is a request, genuine one.  If you think I am falling in love with you, prevent me as you protect me. Don’t let these feelings damage our love as friendship. Make me a pinky promise we won’t fall in love with each other.

Because I know,
“We are a perfect match!”
“But Darling, matches burn!”

  11. I appreciate the way you keep switching between the relationship to explain what one small change in the relationships status can entirely change the status of a relationship in future. The last line is well said, but I like the fact how deep you have put forth the idea of what eventually happens in this kind of a relationship which according to me is absolutely stunning! Keep posting keep inspiring!
