Be Your Own Hero

This started as a caption for a particular photo and ended up as a poem. That’s what happens when I pick up my pensive quill…

Sometimes you need to be your own hero,
No soul to bet on with the choices you’re about to make,
No one to flash the mistakes wide in your regretful darkness,
Lead along, no one to follow, in your own mellow, Be Your Own Hero.

Getting ahead in the chaos, driving away the hurdles,
Treading in the muckiest situation that you’re stuck in,
Being your own benefactor and not looking back,
You need to be your own hero, through dirt and clear water.

Becoming a measure of error or significant selfishness,
Patting yourself for your minute achievement,
For grappling the confidence that kept you going,
And not turning around on that fake pat of reassurance; Be Your Own Hero.

Stay in the modesty capsule, as flaunting takes you in fake circles,
There are a lot to disparage your good and remember your bad,
Nothing to care less or nothing to care more,
In your own lovely mess, Be Your Own Hero.
