A Rainy Morning.
Losing the foot in the slippery mud and getting muddled was
not on her mind. But given the weather condition that evening, it was quite a
possibility. As usual having a gala with her friends and merry-making was going
on and the voices hushed to a little angry frown of a familiar sound. As one
hand stroking through her hair she heard, “Get up!! You are late already.. from
how long do I need to call you??” Realisation struck that she was dreaming.
Rubbing her eyes she struggled to get out of the thick blanket
covering her. Walking towards the window, she opened her eyes to feel the
pleasant breeze and the seemingly cold rain drops on her face. The breeze made
a suggestive gesture of going back to sleep again. She listened to it and
promised herself to get up in the next 5 minutes when she was already 15
minutes late. The obvious irritated mother’s voice in the background did not
bother. Walking back into the room she slipped into her blanket. It provided a
comfortable entity and her eyes closed again.
The peaceful moment did not last long enough as there was a
day ahead to begin with. Getting up in this weather is such a herculean task.
And it is foolish to convince your mother to go to sleep with you again. She is
all up for the day and I wonder how doesn’t the cozy weather play any part in
transforming her mind?
The weather is such a beauty in the morning these days. For
a change I am not looking forward to the gleaming sun but hoping for the dark
clouds. However gloomy it makes you feel during the rest of the day, the
darkness in the early hours of morning is remote. Even in my house balcony I
get a feeling of being somewhere else for few moments. The droplets making
concentric circles in the accumulated puddles also grab my attention. There is
crockety of frogs in the background which has become very rare from past few
years.
A child within still hopes for the roads to get clogged,
rain to continue forever and thus culminating in a holiday at
school/college/work. The urge to make paper boats and race them along with your
friends’ still continues. To have a race between two droplets on the window-pane
and see which one wins. To jump in the
water and make others wet, to get rid of all work and sweat.
There is an urge within to forget all the inhibitions and
walk in this rain for a long time. No reporting to college or work gets away
the college bag, hurl away the umbrella, take off the wind-cheater and walk
along.
OR. Or snuggle up in that cozy blanket of yours which is always willing to engulf you back.
