I Rejected a Rs. 40,000 Secured Job!

Facebook and Twitter being good mediums to spread news- good or bad like fire, we see a lot of posts every day.Within a week we heard of 2 young chaps getting a hefty pay package deal in multinationals. The headlines itself were grabbing eyeballs with the amount of money they’d be earning soon enough.

Pune Boy bags 2 Crore job offer at Google
Now Delhi Boy Gets 1.27 Crore offer from Google

Such stories are motivating, no doubt.

I did my graduation in a three year holiday course (BMM) and followed it up by ‘make some more friends for life and enjoy college days’ post-grad course- MA! No, I do not want to underrate my educational qualifications. I proudly call myself a Masters graduate, but I wouldn’t glorify it unnecessarily on my space here! Soon after jumping from publications to publications, I stuck in one.

Few days back, it was heartening to receive congratulatory messages. It just shows how people are proud and happy for you (or at least they pretend to be). Whatever it maybe I was getting messages too, some from my classmates, some from juniors and I replied perplexed, “For what?!” I thought back if I had any achievement which I had missed out on noting down but couldn’t think of any!
And a few questions later I understood I had secured myself a government job with a salary of Rs. 40,000 and above! Woahhh!
But wait, I did not take it up. Yes. I was in my senses and I chose NOT to take it up! I have my reasons forth...

I earn a little more than half of what I would get there but I reach home on time, I meet my friends on weekends, I get to go around town for work and I meet up celebrities too. I work in the entertainment field currently and have found my comfort. I have to give up my weekends once in a while, but I have an opportunity to get to know more in person of the stars, the world admires. No job is easy, nor is this but I love it. Mind you, entertainment is not glamour and Page 3 party attendance.

For double the amount of money I would have received, I was unwilling to sit in a small shady cubicle with typically older ‘government employees.’ I certainly didn’t want to get tagged as those lethargic workers, not so soon.

Forty frikking thousand is a good amount and would definitely give a lot of support to my family (Not that they ask for it, but I have a conscience). Those close to me told me I should give it a try. Sarkaari Naukri after all is privilege you see, and they too had the confidence I would crack it through. But somewhere I myself did not. I did want to let go of something I enjoy doing for a fat bank balance. Simple thought- If I keep working for money with a cribbing heart, am I really going to have fun spending it?

Also, there were chances with a secured job and fat salary; I would find my family making me sit in front of prospective grooms with an adorable yet fake smile.  Risk Kaun Lega Yaar?!

Money comes and money goes, but my memories of the worthwhile interviews I do, will stay. I don't care about 40-50k they make, I care about the priceless smile I carry.
