Bappa Special!

The beats play a vulnerable tune. Vulnerable for a student concentrating to study hard and comprehending the scribbled handwriting, but gets carried away. Close the books. Get up and dance. Yes, this is precisely what the Ganpati Procession Dhol music does to me.

This time of the year I eagerly wait for the Lord to arrive. I keenly wish if I could have the chance to keep the Lord in my own house. But alas! That still seems very distant right now. Mom says “Let’s see”, Dad denies plaintively. I do not see any more chances. There dies a lil hope. Well I may not be able to keep Ganpati at home but the very arrival delights me. Seeing the preparations at relatives or friends house how I see myself wanting to indulge in same.

Every year, the eye of every statue re-instills the faith. I recite the aartis even better than the poems for a child. It undoubtedly is my favourite amongst all the festivals. A guest in the form of divine, the pompous atmosphere, the simple yet tasty food, the sweets and everything about this season amazes me.

I am not very fond of divine. I have faith but let’s say it is Give me good marks propensity to some extent. But during the season I find myself some time to pay a visit to most of the accessible Ganpati’s. The pleasure I seek from just asking for a good blessing is something I do not how to express and why I feel so.

One more reason is the procession of bidding away. What better day to show off your Ghati moves without caring a damn about anyone? Put your hands in the air and swing along and people will join you. The music plays in my ears now as I try to synchronise it with the hitting the keys on the keyboard. (Yes, I tried it. It is fun by the way). Right from my childhood I have been dancing in the procession of Ganpati Visarjan of society. It is my yearly routine and I will not miss it for anything. Today I am a lil scandalized when same friends who shared the same spirit say, “Now we are not small.” While my thoughts say, “Too bad you oldy! I still have the same spirit.” This is one of the last reasons or may be prime that I look forward to Ganpati every year.

I suggest everyone at least once in your life just get down on the road and Dance. Dance Ghati. Dance Ganpati style.

There is certain level of sadness as we bid adieu to the favourite Lord. He may not get my attention throughout the year as much as during this festival but every day I pray to him for a good blessing and wisdom. Wisdom to deal with the daily chaos and blessing to re-instill the faith that He exists. I hereby again pray for you one and all those who matter to me to be bestowed upon by his blessings and have a good life.
